Early Assessment Exercise

To develop your skills at closely reading philosophical texts and writing in a concise and clear way, there will be an assessment exercise for you to complete before the first peice of coursework you write. The mark for this assessment is formative, and will not count towards your final grade. However, it is an important chance for you to get feedback on your writing and get an understanding of the process as soon as possible.

The assessment takes the form of summarising and commenting critically on T. Nagel, ‘Death’, reprinted in P. Singer (ed.) Applied Ethics (Oxford: Oxford University Press).

The full guidelines for writing this piece can be found in the Course Materials Repository at http://courses.essex.ac.uk/py/py111/, where the article is also available. The deadline for submission of this work is Friday, 2nd November 2007.
